Posted July 31, 2018 14:12:54Wolf sightings have been reported in the Dixie National Forest, where the Mangroves, one of the world’s largest grasslands, are located.
The region is known for its wolves, but these reports have not been confirmed.
The Dixie Forest is one of two national forests that cover the Dukes Mountains, where some of the oldest, most pristine and most remote ecosystems are located, according to the Daughters of the American Revolution.
The National Park Service and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service are looking into the reports.
The agency said in a statement: The National Park service and U. S. Fish & Wildlife Service have been informed of reports of wolves in the area and will investigate them to determine if they are real.
The park service is aware of at least one sighting in the park.
“This type of sighting would be very unusual, but it could be related to a wild animal in the vicinity of the park,” the statement said.
The MANG ROVE FORESTRY was designated as a wilderness area in 1979 and is located about 25 miles southwest of Dallas, according the park service.
